About
Mission
We promote the field of palliative care by building the scientific evidence base, exploring ethical dilemmas, fostering transdisciplinary collaborations, and mentoring a diverse generation of emerging palliative care research scientists. We generate rigorous, innovative palliative care research.
PaRC faculty and staff work alongside the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics in the Division of General Internal Medicine, one of the best-established divisions in the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.
Led by Jane Schell MD, Justin Yu MD, and Teresa Hagan Thomas PhD RN, we are a growing collaborative of faculty, staff, and mentees across schools and departments at the University of Pittsburgh.
Founded by Robert Arnold MD in 1997, the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics has long been considered one of the best-established academic palliative care groups in the US. The Palliative Research Center was established in 2019.
Faculty members and mentees interested in serious illness research and palliative care should contact us to get involved with our events and programs.
