Dr. Yael Schenker Named Associate Chief of Research for the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics

(April 5th, 2023) Dr. Yael Schenker has accepted the role of Associate Chief of Research for the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics, effective April 1, 2023.

Dr. Schenker joined the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics at the University of Pittsburgh in August 2010. She is a Professor of Medicine, Director of the Palliative Research Center (PaRC), and serves as Associate Director for Education and Training at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.  Her research focuses on improving quality of life in serious illness, with a particular focus on palliative care delivery models. She has led large-scale trials evaluating palliative interventions in oncology and critical care settings, and she is widely sought-after as a mentor and collaborator. Her work has been funded by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Aging, the American Cancer Society, and multiple foundations.

In this new role, Dr. Schenker will work to promote growth in palliative care innovation, develop future clinician researchers and strengthen the Section as a national leader in palliative medicine and innovation.
